Sparks flew early at Montverde Invitational

The Utah Prep vs. Sagemont game didn’t secure the coveted PrimeTime evening slot, but it certainly delivered an electrifying performance, proving to be the highlight game of the day.

The sparks were ignited by the presence of two highly touted players: AJ Dybantsa, a newly minted McDonald’s All-American, and Matthew Able, a top 30 2025 guard.

Dybantsa showcased his versatility throughout the game, combining his scoring prowess (35 points), playmaking ability (5 assists), and dominance on the boards (19 rebounds) to secure a double-digit lead early on. However, Sagemont Prep staged a late comeback in the second half, led by the Miami commit, Matthew Able.

Able showcased his exceptional shooting skills, dropping seven three-pointers in the second half and putting Sagemont in a position to tie the game with just four seconds left. Despite falling short by a narrow margin of 82-79, Able finished with an impressive 39 points – 35 in the second half, six rebounds, and three assists, showing why he was one of the hot 2025 prospects coming out last summer’s AAU season.

Game three featured a matchup between Calvary Christian (OTE) and AZ Compass (Nike Scholastic). Calvary Christian took an early lead of 17 points, putting the game’s outcome in doubt. However, they managed to secure a 58-49 victory.

Calvary Christian was led by McDonald’s selection, Shon Abaev, who scored 17 points alongside Sam Hallas, known for his exceptional motor. Cayden Daughtery also contributed with 12 points and eight assists.

AZ Compass was led by Kaden and Kalek House each with 14 points.
